Advanced magnetic X-ray spectro-microscopies to characterize mesoscopic magnetic materials

This article provides a brief overview of advanced magnetic X-ray spectro-microscopies that are widely used in characterizing mesoscopic materials. Common to those techniques various dichroism effects as contrast mechanism. A particular interest is use image the underlying microscopic spin structures materials with high spatial resolution and ultimately resolve their full 3D mesoscale characteristics elemental sensitivity, well ultrafast dynamics upon excitations field current pulses. Recent research examples using presented showcase specific features focus on imaging novel topological textures, such vortices, skyrmions Hopfions, which considered potential building blocks towards low power, high-speed high-density devices could transform information technologies potentially be biomedical applications. Future developments harness coherence next generation sources open path single shot temporal resolutions down fundamental length time scales.
